District 12!

The fact that I've been blogging pretty regularly the last two weeks is directly related to me finishing the first Hunger Games book last week.

It was all consuming and even though I'm glad to have peeled my eyes away from the pages just in time for some blog love, I desperately need the second book.

Does anyone want to overnight me their copy? Or a Kindle would work just fine, too.

Merci :)

nuts about it

Which is more embarrassing? The fact that I am blogging about peanut butter two days in a row or the fact that multiple people contacted me today telling me it’s National Peanut Butter Day?

Do I have a problem?

You know, there are a lot of versions of the story about why I moved to Atlanta (Sort of a lot. Sort of really only one or two…), but the story I like is, it’s because Georgia is the top peanut producing state. I knew I’d feel at home in this nutty state.

Can you really blame me? It’s heart healthy, has been attributed to preventing Alzheimer’s, keeps you full and tastes oh-so good (source).

So today, I salute the sweet spread. For bringing me childhood happiness. For providing daily satisfaction. And for our bright future ahead.

(And to follow up: this post confirms that I do, in fact, have a problem. Owning it.)

peanut sat on a railroad track...

More than a year ago, I purchased a value pack of Omaha Steaks, (1) because it was on a major discount and (2) because there was chicken involved.

Well, my friends, the chicken is long gone, and the steaks have been unleashed on my groceryless home. Considering I’ve had red meat maybe four times in the last year, and the steaks were wrapped in bacon (ick!) this scenario could be slightly alarming. But, I thawed them just enough to unpeel the bacon, cooked them with some olive oil, and voila! My first time making a steak was a success! Grocery-free has its benefits!

Overall, it was pretty challenging making it through the weekend, especially because my green beans, cottage cheese and almonds are all gone, but I got a little creative and am feeling good about my nearing-bare cabinets.

I will confess that I had one misstep Sunday, as I had to (had to!) buy peanut butter. I didn't have any breakfast items and I knew I would end up buying it at work every morning - so buying a jar of PB was actually more economically sound. Maaaybe I'm rationalizing here, but when brekky time rolled around this morning, I knew it was the right decision.

here we go again!

The question at hand is: why did I buy multiple sheets of return address labels when I knew I was only staying at my current location temporarily?

Because of my admitted (more than once) addiction to snail mail? Maybe. Or because I had every intention of sending Christmas cards, and they’re still in a basket under my bed? That too. And also because I wanted my temporary abode to feel like home.

And it did.

But now, I’m on the move. My current roommate, Katie, and I are headed south – to Midtown, that is (Midtown is south, right?). I’ve got two groceryless weeks in my current place until I pack it up again and begin calling Piedmont Park, and Melissa and Sally, my neighbors. Oh, I’m so excited!

Di di di! See you at Park Tavern!
