real talk thursday

I'm 90 percent sure I was still in the womb when I established my love for J.Crew. And I'm 100 percent certain you all have been subjected, tirelessly, to this obsession.

But somewhere between graduation and the reality of bills, our very intimate relationship has turned into me lusting from afar. Where did I go wrong?! I swear I used to have the upper hand.

The Frugal Fashionista's recent blog about post-collegiate shopping summed it up nicely - from her excitement over a $12 Jackie ($12!?) to the intimacy that she has established with the brick wall that is her new reality - I'm pretty sure we're on the same path.

And with that, I have established three solid truths:
1. After another three grocery-free weeks, I'm pretty sure cleaning out your fridge and finding amazing deals at Trader Joe's feels almost (almost!) as good as a snag at J.Crew.
2. I am even more grateful than words can explain for all the donations I've received to my well. Last weekend I was overcharged $2 on dinner out and kind of felt like I'd been robbed. The fact that you've been willing to donate more than 1,100 times that blows my mind. Thank you!
3. Someday I'm going to look back and be really grateful I was forced to learn to budget. And by someday, I mean I'm already grateful for it. Even if my closet is slightly less robust. You can't dress these life lessons up - you just have to live them.

cinco de happy

When I was little, I remember saying I wish there was a shot you could give puppies to make them stay little forever. My more grown up(ish) wish is that I could invent a potion that makes the weekends last longer. Why do they go so quickly? They're so happy!

My Cinco de Derby dreams came true, because I got to watch I'll Have Another win, while sipping a margarita. It was the perfect fusion of the holidays.

Other weekend highlights include a sleepover at Lindsay's, with manicures by Melissa and bonding time with her pup, Beau.
We spent Saturday poolside, then went to a block party, which just felt so summery.
I hope your weekend was wonderful, too! Next up: Memorial Day! Let the season of celebrating begin!

Cinco de Derby

Happy Cinco de Derby! I feel especially fortunate today, with this double holiday weekend upon us.

Whether you're pulling for I'll Have Another or just planning on that being your creed when it comes to all things margaritas (+ chippies), I hope you have a lovely weekend celebrating one of the two.

I've yet to determine whether it will be a Turf Club or a fiesta type of weekend, but the one thing I can guarantee is that I'll be dressing the part. Because, honestly, the best part of both holidays is the themed outfits. Amiright!?

My Midwestern roots have me pulling toward the Derby. My heart can't bear the thought of abandoning Indiana's Kentucky neighbor. But the opportunities for Cinco celebrating are undeniably abundant. If I can pull off a floppy hat at a fiesta (or possibly a sombrero at a Derby party?), I'll be sure to let you know.

Happy FriDerbydeMayo!
